Summer Students

For the past six weeks we have been blessed with the presence of eight young people from the states.  All are interested in living and working overseas.  So we put them to work, trying to demonstrate what long term life is really like out here.  They studied language, taught English, and intentionally spend time with local friends.  Our goal in this summer experience was twofold: give them a taste of, and recruit them for long term service among the YOUs and have them meet and make new friends around town.  All foreigners know the dread of meeting an English shark.  They type of friend who only wants to spend time with you so that they can practice and steal your language.  Since the summer students can only speak English, they befriended these ‘sharks’ and got to know them.  They talked about deep heart matters and let us know which contacts we should continue with.

 

            We also had the opportunity to travel around the desert and hear from other “long termers” what the Lord is doing in their areas.  We went to many towns where foreigners are not allowed to live and just walked around and prayed that God would find ways to open these cities so that they might have His light living there.
