I have often said that my job is sharing Jesus Christ with YOU
people one cup of tea at a time. There are over 10 million YOUs in this
province alone; that’s a lot of afternoon tea parties. But what about the days
my friend cancels our tea date, or I lose my voice from coughing over coal
dust, does the good news just not get shared that day? Even with all of the
workers living here now, three tea dates every day would not even begin to
touch the need. We need to have a bigger
vision. It’s not enough for just a handful of YOU people to hear the good news.
We look at the job ahead of us and ask, “How long, O LORD?” How long until all YOU
people around the province are able to come in contact with the truth of Jesus
Christ? How long, O LORD, till your name
is on their lips?
Our mentor came out a few weeks ago and called us to have a bigger
vision, keeping in mind at all times how our activities play a part in the big
picture. This takes asking new
questions, not just, “When is this girl free for tea, and does she seem open to
reading the Word with me?” but “How does the old lady who picks cotton outside
her village find out news and world events?, What is she reading?, listening
to?, learning?, and how do we get the truth of Jesus Christ onto her radar?” It
takes questions of marketing for this people group. It will take people with
skills in computer video and audio editing.
It will take people who know how to design web pages and make sure the
content is being managed. We need a
bigger vision to see the YOUs hear the good news. Keep asking that our heavenly Father would
provide people with skills in these areas, or a willing heart to lay aside
other activities to invest time in learning these skills. How long, until our vision is big enough to
meet the task?
