Volume# 8 Issue # 4 May 2012 - Family

As single people, overseas, we have to make our own family. We need people to spend the holidays with, celebrate birthdays with, and rejoice at new visas with.   To have people in your life that you can call when you have no one to eat dinner with, but don’t want to be alone.  For the last four years, God has blessed me with a great family. But families of single people eventually break up, not because of strife or divorce, but simply because one person is moving on in life. When married couples or families feel God leading them to a new location, they move together; but single people must often say goodbye to those that are their biggest support group. Our gang has seen a lot of change over the past few months; and there is pain and grief in each separation. There is also a sinful desire not to open up or become transparent with anyone again, as a means of protecting against this kind of pain in the future.  But we are called to be the body, to work together, to love one another, to live in community.  Please pray for me as I long to live out these commands and be vulnerable enough to start new relationships and family connections.
