Listening to Someone Else's IPod

If you read my blog, you have likely heard me mention the endless sleeper bus journeys.  Recently, I took a group of summer teamers down south; we were 24 hours into our bus trip with no seeming end in sight.  My friend lay in her bunk listening to her ipod, with one of the ear pieces in and the other laying abandoned across her chest.  On either side of her bed was a family of women who the diver had picked up hitch hiking in the middle of the night.  Since there were no empty bunks, these women had spent the last 10 hours sprawled in the aisles.   One of these ladies, with no apparent concern or even acknowledgement of my friend’s discomfort, picked the unused ear bud off its perch and started listening to the music.  She quickly decided it wasn’t her style and dropped it back down. Knowing she wanted to listen to something, I pulled out one of the many MP3 players we had pre-packed full of Bible lessons, worship songs, and the Word read aloud.  The woman seemed pleased that the content was in her own language.  After 20 minutes of listening intently, she boldly asked me if she could keep the MP3 player (exactly the plan). I hadn’t heard her clearly the first time from across the bus.  The second time she practically begged me to let her keep it.  She was already telling her family that it was important teachings from the Holy Books.
