Material Production

One thing we have been using our translation company for is the production of new resources and Bible study materials.  We let it be known throughout our community that we are more than willing to translate documents and discipleship material that actively point to Jesus.  Our employees are a group of young women who, in their own culture and societies eyes don’t count for much.

 One of them is a young girl who didn’t get a high enough score on her high school exit exam to go into the field she wanted and ended up at the construction university.  When you look at her 4 good high stature, you know she is never going to be an expert construction worker or contractor  She dropped out for a while, but realised how hard it is to get a good job without a degree, and so she is 23 and still in college.  She goes to school part time and cleans homes and works for us part time.  She is not the smartest or most brilliant student, but she is open to talking about Jesus.  She is patient as I try to translate complex sentences and, because she is not over educated, she can smooth them out and make them sound very natural and easy to understand. 

Another one of our employees has had a hard year.  She married a man when she had only known for a couple of months.  Soon after the wedding she got pregnant with their first child… but, as time went by, her husband became more physically abusive.  She hoped the baby would help keep their family together.  But soon after the birth of their daughter she and her husband got a divorce.  She tried working and being a single mom for a few months, but the stresses were too great so she took the baby to her home town and left her mother to care for the child.  A year later she is back in the same situation she was in when I first met her.  She is living with her brother and working full time.  The only difference is the sadness that you can see in her eyes.  This young woman understands the gospel.  Jesus is bringing hope to her broken situation.

The word tells us that God uses the weak things of this world so that his power may be revealed.  When I look at these young women, and I see the brokenness of these lives, I know that God’s power will be revealed.  They are not people who hold high status in society; they are also not the strong leaders you would expect in the church, but they are faithfully helping God’s word go out among their own people.
