As I continue to recover from my second hip surgery this year, I am being forced to re-learn how to walk. It is a task to try to get my body to stay upright, instead of the noticeable swing that used to mark my gate. Each muscle and ligament have to tighten and be used at just the right time. It actually takes a lot of thought, and I find myself biting my tongue in concentration, my arms ache from gripping my canes with such force as they try to support my legs.
All of this learning to walk again, and use my body properly, gets me thinking about the body of Christ. My current team is a wonderful example of the members of one body supporting each other in a common task. In order to see the Word of God made available in every village across the U heartland, the Lord has drawn together a wide variety of people with different skills and gifts; we have musicians, IT tech experts, video editors, and so much more. During this time of recovery, when somedays my offering of time and energy seem so limited, the Lord is using it in conjunctions with others to see His glory made great.
“For as in one body, we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them…” Romans 12:4-6
