Who Do You Want to Be? Volume# 16 Issue # 4 Date: July 2020

One of the first weeks that church services were forced to go online during this whole COVID-19 thing, we listened to a sermon on Luke 10:38-42, the famous story of Mary and Martha. Martha was busy serving and complained to Jesus that her sister wasn’t helping. Jesus responded by saying “Martha, Martha you are anxious about many things, but only one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.” The Pastor encouraged his online congregation to consider who they wanted to be at the end of this isolation period and reverse engineer their time to reflect that. He said, “What are you doing with this forced Sabbath the Lord has given you? Are you still distracted from the one thing that is necessary, trying to fill your time with as many work projects as you can or are you sitting at Jesus’ feet listening to His teaching?” Who do I want to be at the end of this? I want to be more like Mary. I want to be found sitting at the feet of Jesus. This challenge from the Word led my parents and me into a nightly habit of watching different preachers/teachers online, then talking about their message together and praying that God would faithfully be at work in our own hearts. It has been an encouraging time to grow in the Word together, and together be like Mary sitting at His feet.
