The Eleanor's Garden Baby Food team want to Wish you and your family and Merry Christmas!
After a busy month in the States, Kim and Michael have safely arrived back home encouraged. They had several opportunities to share with small groups, friends and family about this new paradigm of doing business as a means of seeing transformation in hard to reach places of the world. They once again had the opportunity to take part in “the Lion’s Den”, a non-televised version of the famous TV show “the Sharks Tank”, only in this version all the business men and women are believers and all the contestants are cross cultural workers. These business men and women ask hard financial questions, reviewing business plans and rates of return. They too want to make sure they are being wise and investing their money in a profitable business. Thankfully many of them liked what they saw in our company and chose to invest a total of 50 thousand dollars. It is a lot of money and we are grateful for it. But we still need almost 200,000 USD in order to reach our total planned investment capital. We believe that we should be able to get a loan locally for half of that money, secured against the land and factory. Please continue to pray and ask God to show us his plan for the remaining money.
The factory has been moving along slowly. The building company originally estimated two months to complete the building, but after four months we are still missing some of the windows and doors. A key issue is that our contractor has not been paid for another larger job and has been having serious cash flow issues, which has meant he hasn't had the money to pay his workers and subcontractors who decided to stop working as a result. It took us a while to get to the bottom of this. Since then we have been able to pay some of the workers directly, taking the money off what will be due to the main contractor on completion. There have also been quite a few other challenges, including the cement driveway not getting poured before the winter weather set in. We expected that building the factory would not be easy and remain encouraged overall. Despite all of these little details, the building is definitely starting to take shape and all of it still seems workable.
A few months ago we were put in touch with a new coach in Canada. He is trained in Food Quality control management. He has been gracious to offer to help us by sending templates for writing Standard operating Procedures on areas like Maintenance, non-compliance, Human resources, Purchasing and so much more. His advice and participation are greatly appreciated.
