In January 2010 a large group of U workers from across the
countries and organizations meet together for a week of intense meetings. We spent time debating and discussing what we
were really aiming for when it comes to doing his work in their country. Experts always say, if you don’t know what
the goal is you will miss it every time.
By the end of the meeting we had prayerfully crafted and vision
statement that we could all agree on: “We desire that all U people would have
the opportunity to hear and see the good news of JC from someone they know and
trust”. The statement encouraged and inspired
a lot of us to head back to the countries we serve with new vigor. Five years later, based on the attrition of
workers, and just the overwhelming hassles of daily life, not many people would
still be able to articulate this vision, much less say that it drives their
daily interactions with locals. We as a
team have recently tried to resurrect this vision, and between starting
companies and running businesses trying to make sure we are intentional
creating opportunities for people to see and her the good news, or working on
building up our own trustworthiness in the culture around us. We are
challenging each other to be more intentional in having the name of J on our
lips, telling stories about him or parables he told. We are seeking to find place in our
surrounding area that have no witness and spend time walking around those
areas, asking him to work. This vision
needs momentum and calls for lots of people proclaiming boldly in this
area. We can’t do it alone. As we build
our daily life around this desire we have found several other people also
joining us on the task.
